How it works
Two liquid components are sprayed onto a clean, dry roof, where they expand into a rigid foam that bonds to the surface. It forms one seamless layer — no seams to open up — and wraps up the parapet walls in a curved cant. Foam breaks down in sunlight, so it's always covered with a protective coating.
Why owners choose it
- Seamless. No laps or seams to fail.
- Insulation. Adds R-value on top of the house.
- Builds slope. Sprayed thicker where needed to move water to the canales.
- Light. Little added weight.
- Renewable. A recoat every several years can keep it going a long time.
The coating is the maintenance
New Mexico sun is hard on coatings. Plan to inspect yearly and recoat before the foam is exposed. Bare foam turns brown and crumbly — that's the signal you've waited too long. See when to recoat.
Weather
Foam has to go on a dry roof in suitable temperatures without much wind, so we pick the days carefully, especially in spring wind season and monsoon afternoons.
Roofing questions
How thick is a foam roof?
Commonly around an inch or more, thicker where slope is being built.
How long does foam last?
Many decades when the coating is maintained. The coating itself is renewed every several years.
Can birds damage foam?
They can peck at it; a well-maintained coating and prompt repairs help.
